Would I drown in a L&D travel nurse position?

Published

Specializes in L&D.

I have been a nurse for 4 years. 3 years in a step down/oncology unit. I then just finished a year in an extremely high risk labor and delivery teaching hospital. I want to do travel nursing so badly in L&D but worry that one year experience isn't enough to travel in L&D. I feel pretty comfortable but obviously always have room to grow!  I have ACLS, PALS, BLS, NRP, fetal monitoring, and then a bunch of med surg certifications!

All suggestions welcome (:

You won't have a problem being placed! Another year of experience would be good, but if you are keen to go now, find a good recruiter and start with traveler friendly assignments for a year. Call lots of recruiters until you find a couple you think are good and trustworthy and knowledgeable about clinical conditions. You might find it easier at teaching hospitals with residents.
