Would a Bs in psychology help me get into a nursing program?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi there everyone. Well I am currently a CNA in a skilled nursing facility. I have been working towards my associates in pre-nursing. I have some way to go still , my grades have been all A's and B's until last fall semester I got a C in both chemistry and intermediate algebra and an F in history(ouch!). Completely messed up my gpa and now at best I will have a GPA of 3.4 which in nowhere near "competitive" to the nursing programs near me. I love psychology and I love nursing both fields fascinate me. I am really wanting to be a psych nurse. So I was considering completing my pre-reqs for the nursing program and changing my major to psychology so I can transfer and get my BA in psychology. Would that give me a better chance at getting into a nursing program?

Hi! I actually graduate this December with my B.A. in Psychology and I still have about 3 pre-req's I'll need to complete prior to applying to nursing programs. Honestly, from my research I have found that the BSN and ABSN programs can be much MORE competitive to get into (in my area). And also, as far as admissions, they still weigh your pre-req GPA more than your Undergraduate GPA. So, if you really want to get into a program I would highly recommend retaking pre-req courses that you earn a C or less in. But overall, I think it also really depends on where you are located though and what the schools around you are looking for. I would like to believe that having a background in Psychology to become a Psyc Nurse is a bonus. Best wishes to you!
