I began my prereqs for the nursing program 2 years ago. The nursing programs were so competitive that it scared me, my grades were not the best so I began to fear working so hard and then failing. And in the end having no degree. I burned out and began to major in something "easy". It turns out that it's harder to major in something you are not passionate about. I am still undecided as to what's I want to do but I am learning about all different types of careers in the medical field. I plan to either become a pathologist assistant or a nurse. Currently I am majoring in human biology, and transferring to a 4 year university and emphasize a little more in microbiology. I guess my point is you don't have to have your life figured out yet. You can major in something health related, you can explore all aspects of the medical field. Anything health related is a lot of hard work but the medical field is such an amazing field to work in! I guarantee you if you're passionate about it, it will be worth it. Maybe you're not scare of hard work but you have not yet found what you are passionate about.

Okay so I've worked in a SNF for over a year as a CNA. Im taking my prereqs for RN. my grades are not too good 3.0 Gpa. Well I was considering paramedic as a plan B while I get into a Nursing program, because I love trauma. However many coworkers have advised me to do LVN instead because it will help me get into RN as many RN programs are career ladders and require your LVN before you can get into their RN program. Is this true? I wouldn't mind working as an LVN but, It wouldn't be my ideal job. I've burned out of geriatrics but maybe it's just because I'm a CNA.

My grades are pretty bad. I have a history class I failed 5 years ago, and 2 C's in intermediate algebra and chemistry. The rest of my grades are A's and B's but I know with grades like this I won't get into any nursing program nearby. I'm currently majoring in Human biology in hopes that will help me get into an RN program. since I also want to finish my major I was wondering if there are still any nursing programs in CA that have a wait list. I don't mind waiting a couple of years while I finish my BS in Himan bio. Thank you!

Hi there everyone. Well I am currently a CNA in a skilled nursing facility. I have been working towards my associates in pre-nursing. I have some way to go still , my grades have been all A's and B's until last fall semester I got a C in both chemistry and intermediate algebra and an F in history(ouch!). Completely messed up my gpa and now at best I will have a GPA of 3.4 which in nowhere near "competitive" to the nursing programs near me. I love psychology and I love nursing both fields fascinate me. I am really wanting to be a psych nurse. So I was considering completing my pre-reqs for the nursing program and changing my major to psychology so I can transfer and get my BA in psychology. Would that give me a better chance at getting into a nursing program?
