english speaking nurse moving to germany

I will be moving to Germany in 2 years while my husband does research. I am a nurse and am wondering if anyone can lead me in the right direction for possible jobs in Germany for a nurse who does not speak German. While my husband speaks fluent German and tries to teach me, I cannot do a job that requires the German language. Are there places for English speaking nurses to work? Any advice or a push in the right direction would be very helpful and appreciative. Thank you!

hi

sorry for the late reply.

the first thing for you is to learn german language as it is the most important in Germany to work as a nurse.I would say its not very difficult to get a job as nurse in Germany but its challenging. If you are capable of speaking, reading, and writing in german so its very easy to go through one year of recognition "Anerkennungsjahr"which is quite easy.after you are done with it so you will need to go through oral, written and practical examination.as a matter of fact i dont know much about the oral and written exams but i know that the practical exams is quite easy.you have to prepare a patient regarding his medications,Insulin if he is diabetes patient, change the wound dressing, etc.

everyone has to go through this procedure if he is not from EU.The nurses are not being paid good in germany and its different from hospital to hospital and it depends on your years of experience and tax classes.if you are married and have children then you will be paid more than a single person but you wont get more than 2000 to 2300 net maximum (only nurse with good experience and marital status of married with kids).most new educated nurses get paid only 1500 to 1700 euro net per month.

hope it will help you.

How is the job market for nurses in Germany right now? I am thinking about moving out there in the next two years. Meine Sprache ist ein wenig. My language is sporifice. However, I am willing to work hard to make it work. My husband's family lives out there (my husband is German). They are getting older, and I am looking to do what I can to move us out there soon. I was even looking at joining the service, but the bases have cut back significantly. Doubt they would station me where I ask to go. Any ideas? I am interested in even modifying my education to meet the needs in Germany. Do you think that getting a masters degree would help? I could become a physician's assistant. I appreciate any ideas anyone has that reads this.

Vielen Dank!

Hi Kelli,

The job market for nurses is pretty good in Germany right now. Work on your German, because that is the key for you :)

Where are going in Germany?

Getting a nursepracticioner maybe helps, but it very new field in Germany. The American education is enough for Germany. If you know your place where you want to stay in Germany, ask your husband to contact the "Gesundheitsamt" to ask what they need for your license, mostly it is pretty easy.

Good luck to you!
