Hello everyone!

The agony of waiting soooo long for my SEC result is finally over. I was told to take 2 workshops at Kwantlen in Surrey in order for CRNBC to grant me a provisional license. I'm so thankful I won't have to do the whole year of refresher course. Once I get the provisional license, I can then work and take another course NURSING IN CANADA-- its an online course that I can do at my own pace while working.

There's a downfall for though. The workshops cost $1300 for both. PSYCHOMOTOR NURSING SKILLS would take 4 days, and PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT is 2 days. I contacted Kwantlen and was told I need to pay the full amount upfront in order to reserve a seat and that seats are limited to just 20 per session. It costs too much for just 6 days, hey?

I wonder if I can apply for a bursary to pay for the expenses of the workshops?

I would greatly appreciate any information you can share with regards to this matter.

P.S.

I phoned student aid BC and the agent I talked to told me I cant avail any student loan coz it doesnt qualify in any of the programs.

Cheers!

hi nursingmom, just wanna ask how long it took before your SEC result came out. I'm taking mine in june 2011 and I dont know how to plan my stay in Canada. Thank you so much. =)

Why do you expect the Canadian taxpayer to pay for your workshops? The government barely gives grants to mature students who have lived and worked in Canada all their lives.

Ultimately, the cost is yours. You chose to move here with the knowledge that your education would require upgrading.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you can apply for the RBC diversity in nursing fund for internationally educated nurses bursary, see the Canadian nurses foundation website for more information

@Fides: it too about 8 weeks til the result came out. Good luck!

@Fiona, I am not expecting for taxpayers to pay for my own expenses, that's why I asked if I could avail the student loan-- it's a loan so I will have to pay for it in time.

@dishes: thank you so much for this information. I tried to apply, we'll see how it goes coz I think the scholarship is good for those taking the re-entry program for a year..

Taxpayers do subsidize student loans. Who do you think is lending you the money? The government of Canada. No interest is paid until six months after completion. So, yes, you are asking taxpayers to subsidize you.

Unless you get a student line of credit from your bank, and start paying interest right away.

Is there anyone here had the SEC but didn't required to undergo workshops? Theses workshops are ridiculously expensive? Right now money is my problem. please email me at [email protected]

or anyone here an international nurse who is also under the live in caregiver?

thanks.

if you are an immigrant already in Canada, you can go to skills connect. They will subsidize 75% of your expenses in upgrading your education.

goodluck.

Is there anyone here who can give their opinion regarding the LPN registration? Is it advisable to pass an application to both CRNBC and CLPNBC? I heard that if you passed an initial application to CRNBC for assessment, you can write them a letter to forward a copy of your documents to CLPNBC
