Working while waiting for Registration?

Published

Hi!

Another question!

In Alberta, Canada, you have to apply for a CARNA permit to work in that province. Apparently after sitting and passing the CRNE they then give you a Temporary Permit to work as a graduate nurse.

As I understand though, getting a job as a nurse now in Alberta is now extremely competitive........so, on the off chance that I don't get a job, am I allowed to just work as a carer in an aged care facility until an RN position becomes available?

Has anyone else got any experiences they can share while waiting for all the paperwork to be approved?

Is it easier just to remain in your home country while waiting for approval?

Any advice is most welcome as I'm still researching how to make the transition from Australia to Cananda at present.

Do you mean provisional registration or a GN license? Then it is issued BEFORE you sit and pass CRNE, passing it means you have met the final requirement for practising registration as an RN.

Getting a job depends on what visa you hold. If on TWP (Temporary Work Permit) then I believe you are bound to work solely for your sponsor. But if on PR (Permanent Resident), you are free to accept any job you want, healthcare related or not.

It is always easier to get the ball rolling as you may realize it will save you time and money later.
