  1. Wow! Well done on having 2 employers want to pursue you in the US. I was beginning to get the impression that the US and Canada didn't want foreign workers so seeing this has given me hope! How much experience do you have? Are you a new graduate?
  2. Hi! Another question! In Alberta, Canada, you have to apply for a CARNA permit to work in that province. Apparently after sitting and passing the CRNE they then give you a Temporary Permit to work as a graduate nurse. As I understand though, getting a job as a nurse now in Alberta is now extremely competitive........so, on the off chance that I don't get a job, am I allowed to just work as a carer in an aged care facility until an RN position becomes available? Has anyone else got any experiences they can share while waiting for all the paperwork to be approved? Is it easier just to remain in your home country while waiting for approval? Any advice is most welcome as I'm still researching how to make the transition from Australia to Cananda at present.
  3. Yes am general trained and every semester we do a month of clinical on the job type training in different areas of health care. This semester its Paediatrics, Mental Health and Medical Surgical. Am hoping to move to Edmonton, Alberta. It does sound like the easier option will be to wait an extra year..............get that 12 months of work experience behind me.......hoping to find someone on here who didn't but maybe they got lucky!
  4. Hi there, Im in Perth Australia, and will be graduating as a Registered Nurse from university at the end of next year. I'm a mature age student, 34 y/o and it's always been my dream to go to Canada and work. I was just wondering if there are any RN's from Australia on here that have managed to get work in Canada straight after graduating, or do they prefer us to have experience. I know our education and clinical practice is very similar so I'm sure I shouldn't be at too much of a disadvantage. I just really don't want to wait another year after graduation trying to gain experience here. I'd rather move to Canada and just get on with the beginning of the rest of my life. Any advice on how Australians have gone in doing this would be very helpful! Thankyou!
