Working in the US

Published

Hi Suzanne4

We are new Canadian residents, but not citizens yet. We would like to move to Texas but I need info as where to start. I haven't registered in Canada yet, still waiting for my transcription to be send and did my training in another language. Once my transcription and verification are received here, CARNA would do an assessment. Would it be better to register here first, then apply in the US, or can I directly apply in US?

Thanks

Tessa-Mae

You can apply directly to the US, you do not need to wait for your file to be completed in Canada.

Hi Suzanne

My husband has now started in Houston and the kids and I are moving there at the end of June. What study material do you reccommend for the nclex-exam, where to get it and how to get started. I have qualified in South Africa in 1989 and has worked on and off for periods. Haven't worked within the last 8 years, so I have a lot of catching up to do. Still waiting for my transcription. I have asked them to put it on hold until we are in the US and to then send it.

Thanks

Texas actually requires the CES and that is done thru CGFNS. They will not even look at your application until they have that credentials eval in their hands. Definitely get started on that now, do not wait until you are in the US. The wait will not make any difference.

We have a thread here called the NCLEX Forum, it gives all of the information that you need to follow for preparing for the exam. If you want to follow my program, there are instructions in a sticky at the top of that forum.
