Working as tech woessssssssssss

Published

OK so i'm currently taking my pre reqs so i can get into Nursing school. I've been a patient care tech/CNA for 3 years. I've done home health, ltc, as well as working in a big university hospital. Prior to becoming a tech I was in the Army. My home health patient died and I started working at the hospital and on my days off at the nursing home. I applied to a rehab hospital recently and got the job and was really excited! I figured after working digestive disease for so long I'd be giving myself a gross break!! Although I got the job some of the nurses look at me funny or make smart remarks about my looks. They ask are you sure you want to be a nurse you see a lot of nasty things or you don't think your too cute to do this! I'm always going to the bathroom looking at myself like did I put on too much chap stick or something? Only make up I put on is mascara when i go to work. My first hospital job I had to apply for the position twice. The first time I didn't get it but she liked my personality so she kept my application and 3 months later called to offer me the position. I asked her why I didn't get it the first time and she told me ask the people in my peer interview and when I did they said they thought I was too cute. SMH I HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS BS EVER!! Now I'm experiencing it again. I have gotten down and dirty with the best of them and my prior job in digestive disease they absolutely loved me I just got toooooooooo burned out and wanted to try something new but can go back at any time. I just don't understand the hard time. My work is great the patients love me I just don't understand why they make it so hard for me. My overall goal is to become a physician assistant. I'm starting late cause I'm 24 but i'm taking my pre entrance exam next month to get in the rn program to become a nurse. Can anyone give me any advice on how to address the problem without bringing my supervisor into it? I just started and I don't want her to think I can't handle the job. Thanks!

I've never heard someone say a person is too cute for a position. Is there more to the story?

People will always judge it is just human nature. If someone is ugly they will be discriminated for that. If someone is pretty they will face their own discrimination as well. The only advice I can give you is ignore what people say and work hard. When people see how well you can perform your job they will stop looking at your pretty face and start looking at your excellent skills. Best of luck to you.

No that's it. I don't do anything. I come to work I tell everyone good evening, get report, and go to work. I offer help or help when asked. Idk. I'm very nice to everyone. I really don't talk much cause I'm not at work to socialize but I speak. I'm just feeling like whatever as of now cause like he said people will always judge. I just think its weird and crazy cause I see a lot of pretty nurses/techs.
