Working with several companies?

HI Everyone!

So, I'm currently on my first travel assignment. It's okay, but not exactly what I had hoped for. I'm actually quite bored. Anyway, My contract ends soon... so I have been speaking with several different companies, as I did before. However, My problem is this:

One company called me today and offered me exactly what I was looking for (not the company I am working with this assignment), so she sent my profile to the hospital. About 45 minutes later... my current company calls asking if she wants me to send over my profile to the exact same job! I wasn't sure what to say, so I told her I would think about it. I didn't want to tell her my profile has already been sent by someone else, but truth be told- they're paying more money for me to work there!

Has anyone else ever had this problem? Suggestions on how to handle it?? Thanks! :nurse:

This happens all the time. The first thing you need to find out is which company actually has people working at that facility. Ask the recruiter "How many people do you have there now?" If they stutter that means none. If they both have people working, you would want to go with whoever has the better reputation. One company might lose out on shifts and depts more than the other. Of course being double submitted can always get your profile deleted by the facility so that is a gamble as well. Typically the company with the better relationship with the facility will win out. Since this is your 1st assignment I am sure you are already knowing the grass aint always greener!

This has happened to me a few times and I have just learned that honesty is the key. It doesn't hurt to tell the truth and besides, travel nursing is basically a big competition between agencies anyway so its not like they won't ever work with you again just b/c you let a diff agency send your file over.

I had a offer for a faciliity in San antonio by two agencies and I went with the higher paying one. The lower paying agency had asked me (just like in your case) "hey do you still want me to send your file over". So I told the truth and replied by saying "sorry I decided to have my file sent by another company who pays higher for that particular job" The lower paying agency asked me details of how much they were offering and blah blah blah but they were trying to see if they could match that. Turns out they couldnt' but at least they know I'm not working for pennies. These agencies are quick to take advantage of you, and when they know your working with multiple agencies to find you a job and not just them, they tend to not play with your mind as much.

Be smart and honest : )

It was hard for me at first, and I still struggle with it when time comes to look for the next assignment. I have to remember that I am kind of on my own when it comes to jobs. Most agency care about the bottom line, and work for the hospital, not for the RN. I know there are good recruiters out there, but I have to look out for myself and make sure I have the next job, and it actually is where I want to go and for the money I want to make.
