Working near French/Swiss border

I am a UK nurse and have been working in France for 4 years. Now we have moved to the border near Geneva and I need to decide whether to apply for jobs in France or Switzerland. I need to know about registering my diploma in Switzerland - how and where and if it is a long process. I think it would be easier to continue working in France as I am already titulaire and therefore have rights to social security etc. However I am bored with retirement homes and long stay care of the elderly and would love to get back into more acute nursing in French or English. Has anyone out there had these dilemmas and what do they recommend? Thankyou!

Hi Rachel,

I just registered so I can (maybe) help you. I used to live and work in Switzerland, but I'm now in England, lol

You need to register with the Swiss Red Cross in Wabern, you can email them for an assessment package.

Many things have changed, but since your are a member of the european community the assessment shouldn't take too long.

It used to be possible (and in fact was necessary) to work prior to registering in Switzerland to qualify, but as I said things have changed so you better contact them directly.

Just to mention, it''s quite common to commute, since the Swiss pay better:)

good luck

Does anyone know about agency nursing in Geneva and if so which is a good agency to join. I will ideally be looking for regular late shifts 3 days a week in the same place but need to be very flexible.

Also does agency nursing like that exist in France?

Thankyou.
