working while in monitoring program

Nurses Recovery

Published

Just started a monitoring program. Was wondering if anyone was able to get into case management when they were allowed to go back to work. I will have restrictions once approved. Thanks.

I was thinking about this option, research nursing, tele-health, working for an insurance company, etc. these seem like very recovery/stipulation friendly, but I had heard from my lawyer that they want to "test you" around narcotics before they set you free. Anyone have any experience with this?

Hi:

I finished my probation in June. I think that if you have experience in case management, you could get a job, but frankly I realized the tough fact that I needed to scrape to get a job. ANY JOB... My strategy was to apply in person to the DON at the crummiest SNF in town. I finally got my first job. My goal was to frickin' work, not get my dream job. I had to put all that aside temporarily. Then 2 months later I got a job at a little better SNF. Finally, I was able to get a job in the nice rural unionized community hospital where I was able to easily and comfortably work off probation. I don't want to rain upon anybodys parade, but I got realistic real fast...remember, we are now considered a liability to an employer. I have seen probationers languish and not be able to start clicking down the months because they would not consider "the bottom of the barrel" jobs. I have never heard of the BON wanting to "test" you to see how you do around narcotics. They don't care. They want their paperwork on time and proof that you test negative on screens. Good Luck.... (((((hugs)))))

Thanks for the replies. I am open to absolutely anything. I have not yet been approved to go back to working as a nurse. Just putting some feelers out. Actually, I will be relocating and will probably have to restart a monitoring program in my new state. Thanks again for the replies.
