working under your LVN license if you will be an RN in the next two months(hopefully)

Published

I was wondering " Can you work under your LVN license if you graduated from the ADN program and will be re-taking the NCLEX-RN in the next couple of months in Texas?" I have been applying for LVN postions because I need a job and can not wait for two more months or even one more month. I was told by Kelsey-Seybold that I can not apply for any LVN positons due to the fact that I will be aquiring an RN license in the future. Im confused I tried to look for info. on the BON website but cant find it. Please someone help me!! I can not apply for GN(graduate nurse) positions because I failed the NCLEX the first time around and they are not many out there. :(

Thank you,

I graduated last May with my LPN and continued straight through for my RN. The whole time finishing up I worked at a local hospital as an LPN, even after I graduated and was awaiting taking my RN boards, I was still working under my LPN license...as an LPN. Tomorrow will actually be my very first day working under my shiney new RN license. I am in Tennessee if that matters but I don't see why you wouldn't be able to work as an LPN or even a GN, Good Luck

If that particular employer does not want to hire you in those circumstances it is their prerogative, but it does not mean you can not work for anyone as an LVN. If you need the income, then go ahead and get an LVN job. But unless you are content with remaining with LVN responsibilities and LVN pay, you should inform the employer about the future RN status. Or you might just wait until it happens, so that you can work in the meantime. The car goes in both directions. Good luck.

thank you, caliotter3 I need it!
