I am guessing but I think you might be doing CNA stuff w/ the moms, like helping them ambulate, hygeine and stuff like that. maybe stocking rooms etc.

I did not know that techs took care of the newborns tho. There weren't any where I did my maternity clinicals. It was all RNs. Maybe the techs would transport the babies to and from the nursery but again, security is very tight and I didn't see any cna's at all.

Why not call the hospital where you are going to work? They should provide you with a complete job description.

I did call the hospital but they give very little info because the description of job they said(she named a few) but i'll be with newborns but they didnt say doing what tho....So who knows what I could be doing:rolleyes:  .... But I iwll find out more today because I have to go down there and talk to them about the job....Thanks for the unfo you gave me.......

At the hospital I delivered at, as well as did a clinical rotation in the OB, nursery, and the NICU, they did have techs in all of them (except maybe the NICU - I don't recall there being any techs there, but I could be wrong.)

This is what I saw them do:

L&D - I think they have them there sometimes, but I did not see any when I had my baby or when I did clinical.

Post Part - vital signs, stocking, getting equipment together, ambulating, getting things for the patients

Nursery - came and got babies to take to nursery for MD exams, rocked babies in the nursery, fed babies in nursery if the mom wanted them too, watched the babies in the nursery overnight, took babies back from nursery to moms at request/to be breastfed, I saw some do the hearing tests on the babies, watch babies for a little while after circumscisions (unless parents wanted baby back in room), watched the babies that had to be put in a warmer (of course all of this was under direct RN supervision from what I could tell - what they were able to do also seemed to be based on experience/education (for instance they were a RN or LPN student working way through school)

Hope that helps! But rememember what you can do will vary not only by hospital but by the standards set forth in your states Nurse Practice Act. If you can get a look at the nurse practice act for your state you can see what the scope of practice for you in those areas would be!
