Hello,

I'd appreciate any advice on this situation.

I currently working in a home where the mother and daughter are in the kitchen where my patient 87 alzheimers man sits. He make a comment like "Did you leave yet? and then he laughs... Well the mother and daughter didn't think it was funny and they begin arguing with him.

He is my patient.. my question is , should I be in the same room with them while they are arguing with my patient as to why he says certain things? I really don't want to get in the middle of family arguments, but as a caregiver (me), do I need to stay and try to calm the situation?

I was doing to say it was the alzheimers talking, but they are not at that point where they even want to accept the alzheimers yet... and I'd hate to hurt their feelings.

Any suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated.

It's difficult to say what to do in this situation. They are a family, and you have to think about what the consequences are if you try to get involved. Best thing to do is contact the agency you work for. I've had families suing each other, adult children asking the person I'm hired to take of for money, and all sorts of craziness. Any time I hear something that is out of the ordinary I just text it to my boss so they can figure out how to handle it.
