Working to Gain More Expierence while in Bsn Program??

Published

My Name Is Justin, and im an aspiring CRNA. I'm currently not in my school's nursing program, but definitely will be applying this year! I've been wanting to become a CRNA every since my 10th grade year in highschool,an has come more obssessed with it each day.[i think im in love with it actually]I find myself wanting to learn more an more about it everyday, which i have...But every CRNA program requires atleast a year of an expierence in ICU or what not but i want to do more than that, jus to be more confident in my work an expierence when i enter GRAD school!!..That leads me to my question.....

.....While in the nursing program is there any work i can do that will benefit to help me gain more expierence to help me get into GRAD school???...Or will i just have to wait it out until i graduate out of the program??

...An another thing does nursing internships tend to help you with expierence to maybe get into GRAD school??

..::I really do appreciate all of you all's feedback & Cant wait to join the CRNA Club :wink2:::..

my thing is recommending for people to do AS degree first then you can work while finishing your BSN. I don't think any internships, in general, are gonna help you much to get into grad school while in your initial nursing program-although there is someone on here that was able to do an internship with a CRNA which was great. you are prob gonna be so overwhelmed in your nursing program that you might not have extra time to study something else, so the big thing would be to devout yourself to your nursing program and understanding how the body and well as disease processes, etc, all impact the rest of the body.

hopefully other's will chime in, but just excel in the sciences, and get the most out of your program, then get your certifications when you get out.

good luck.

Thanks MissNurse,I was pretty much thinking that i should focus on the nursing program as well,an that working might not give me enough time to study as i would like.

You may be able to get a volunteer or CNA position that will put you in a better position to help you get an ICU nursing position once you've graduated from school and gotten licensed as an RN, but there is no experience you can get prior to be a licensed RN that graduate programs will count as "nursing" experience.

If your long-term goal is CRNA, the best thing you can do for yourself is focus on getting excellent grades in your nursing program, which may mean not working or volunteering while you're in school ...

Best wishes for your journey!

not a crna but very close to getting my ducks in a row so i'll be applying shortly to a program and i have a few fishing buds that are crna's, so with that in mind i'll give you my take on your situation. dont worry about anything but getting into a nsg program right now, then concentrate on graduating that program with the best gpa you can get, find a icu somewhere get your yrs worth of exp while actually trying to learn what being a critical care rn is about, then apply to crna school. i agree with missnurse with going the asn to bsn route, thats what i did. that way you can be doing your online bsn upgrade (3 sem worth) while working in a icu enviroment, so by the time you get your bsn you would have been nursing in icu atleast or close to a yr and should be ready to apply for crna. forget all that volunteer stuff, get into rn school, work icu, then apply to crna...good luck.

Hey,Thanks Man You An MissNurse Make A Good Point about the online program..

The Only Question I Have About That Is For Some Reason I Wonder If You Get Good Quality Education online like you do in an actual classroom.??...

it will be enough, just make sure the upgrade online course has all the right certifications and bells and whitsles from all the nursing org. good luck.

ok, computer ate my response so here is the short short version-rn-bsn completion programs are nothing like your entry rn program-that is where the meat of your nursing knowledge comes from. after you are already an rn, the rest of your classes can be well served by the online medium-comm health, research, etc. as long as your school is accredited you will do fine-i went to univ of wyoming and thought their online program was great, the testing, class interaction, papers, avail of instructor etc was pretty well done. look around to online rn-bsn programs when you are near the end of your asn program, plenty of time to research them!

ok, 3rd attmept stupid computer! as long as the school is accredited you will be ok...you have plenty of time to invest programs...the meat of your nursing knowledge will come from your asn degree program-the rest of the bsn classes are more paper and student interaction type classes-research, comm health, family dynamics, etc. i went to univ of wyoming and think they did a good job...good luck!

Honestly,Thanks Everyone For Giving Me Some Insight To online programs As Well As Working While In The Program!!...Especially You Miss Nurse For trying Those Three Times[shows You Really Wanted to tell me]
