Working conditions at Barrow, Clearview, or Eastside

U.S.A. Georgia

Hello,

We are moving across the country from California to Walton County. I have 5 years nursing experience with the 2 most recent years in the ICU. Does anyone know about working conditions at Barrow Regional Medical Center in Winder, Clearview Regional Medical Center in Monroe, or Eastside Medical Center in Snellville. I would hopefully work in the ICU. Does anyone know the patient ratios or how well nurses are treated at these hospitals?

Thanks!

Clearview has a brand new facility, one year old. The ICU is 2:1 or 3:1 depending. Eight rooms, but plans on expanding the ICU in the next couple of years. That's all I can tell you. Good luck.

I have worked at Clearview for 5 1/2 years and I have no issues. Our hospital has only been open for 14 months and the ICU is excellent. Currently, they are already adding on to the med-surg unit and adding 27 additional beds. ICU Leadership is very good and the staff work well together. The ICU director is also a CNS which is positive. Our CNO use to be a critical care RN so that is good thing as well. The average pt ratio is 2-1. ICU cares for a large number of critcal medical and surgical patients. However, we are a level III trauma center so you get trauma pts plus we care for cardiac pts. We don't have open heart or transplant pts services.

Thank you, Sekishin and Monmi! Those responses are helpful! I would love to hear from others as well with knowledge or experience of these facilities.

Calif to Winder..you are in for a change!

Eastside is an HCA facility - some people like that, some don't. The hospital itself is nice and the staff is as well. It would be a little ways from Winder.

I use to work at Barrow..it's your average, small town hospital. You aren't going to get trauma's etc - those are going to ship to the larger facilities, but overall, it isn't - or wasn't - a bad place to work. The upper management seems to turn over a bit & it's been bought & sold a few times but nothing major.

Clearview is about the same as Barrow - smaller town.

Given you are going to live in Winder you may want to consider North East Georgia Medical Center (I worked there too early in my career) or Gwinnett Medical (work there PRN) They are great places to work - larger hospitals. As well as Athens Regional (worked there for years - nice place) and St. Mary's - both in Athens.

Regardless of what ones you apply to jobs are tough to get here so if ICU is what you want you will need current BCLS/ACLS and a Georgia Nursing license - if you apply w/o any of those - esp. a current Ga license - you app is not going to get looked at. There are too many nurses looking in this area. Good luck & welcome to Georgia!

Very helpful response, Lucky! Thank you!

I have no personal experience with Barrow, but by reputation I would avoid it, it is so bad, Barrow County drives its prisoners to Athens instead of going just down the street.

ARMC has a large Med Surg ICU and a Cardiac ICU.

St. Mary's has a small ICU, but is a decent hospital.

Northeast Georgia has a Cardiac and a regular ICU. I did clinical there and it was the most well designed nursing unit I have ever been on. It was obvious that a nurse was in on the design. Best day of clinical I had.
