I always thought I wanted to be a FNP, so I could work business hours in an office. But now that I'm a new RN grad and going into critical care, I think I really want to stick with this field. What is it like to be an adult critical care NP? We don't have any at our hospital -- we do have PAs, who round in place of the doctors they work for, is that sort of how it is? Or is it like being a CNS where you're always around, for like a 12 hour shift? Any insight into a typical work day would be appreciated!

If you don't see critical care NP's in your hospital, or in the area where you live, it may not be a wise decision to pursue it unless you want to be the person selling the role to physicians. There are some areas in the country where the role is still unheard of and I would assume would be difficult to find job opportunities in.
