would you work more hours for a better job?

If I stay at my current job (certified surgical tech) I can work 26 hours plus 24 hours of call each week, sometimes I work the whole shift :(. I won't have a set schedule, my boss is not happy and it may be difficult to leave work on time every day for class. Or I could apply for a student nurse position, which is a cut in pay but better hours that are consistant. I would have to do 32 hours a week, but it would never interfere with my classes and it would be floor experience?

If it were me, I would do the student nurse position.

The cut in pay sucks, but I'd still do it. Better hours, you KNOW you'll get to go to class...(In my program, attendance is a HUGE thing!) I'd say do it.

I think the student nurse position is a good way to go, as it gives you more nursing experience and possibly a foot in the door for an RN position in the future.

I just had an opportunity fall in my lap. I have been trying to get an OB tech position for a couple years. Today I had to cover L&D and do a stat section. I was talking to some of the RN's and they told me to apply for the position that just opened. I didn't even notice the posting. I talked to the dept. manager at the desk, while I was standing there two surgeons, and two RN's recommended me, and I later had an APRN tell them to hire me. I am so excited, I have an interview later this week. I am competing with two nursing students with no scrubbing experience. Its 24 hours, mostly weekends, it might be the same rate of pay, they will train me for the CNA aspect (which will help for school). I can still do a shift or two in the OR, and not have to worry about getting out for school. I am so excited, oh and I got a local city scholarship today for $500. Baby and mom are doing well. It's a great week so far...
