work compensation dilemma, advice needed

Published

Hi guys i'm a new member, this forum is cool.

I am working as an assistant in nursing in an aged care and few days ago at work, I strained my lower back muscle while trying to help a resident sit up for breakfast. I did fill up the incident form and headed straight to doc who suggested me of complete rest. After 3 days of incident, I am doing some exercises to keep muscle off getting stiff.. i'm off work until i'm completely ready. My employer has agreed with work compensation but well the problem is I am and undergraduate nursing student and in a year perhaps i will graduate to become a registered nurse. I am just worried, if i apply for workers comp, it will be there in my medical history and when applying for nursing job later, it might hamper.

what do you guys have to say on that? should i apply for work compo or just let it go now that its just a muscle strain?? plz help

It depends on your financial situation - - can you afford to be off of work without any pay? Can you afford the meds you may need?

This is a difficult situation. Think it through very carefully. You may need some PT, as well.

Best wishes!
