Work Commitment for Thomas Jefferson FACT Program scholarship

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi everyone,

I recently inquired at Jeff about the work commitment for the FACT program scholarship. I was told that at the time they award the scholarship (before you begin the program) they assign you to work at either Jeff or Methodist when you graduate. They were not sure if the student has any say in which unit he/she is assigned to, but they thought that there is probably no choice involved, and the student is just assigned where the need is. Does anyone know if this is true, and, if it is, what units they typically assign people to?

Thanks in advance for any info. :)

Thanks Fins! I appreciate the information!

I just got accepted into the FACT program and will be liasing with graduates here periodically for support. I am excited and scared but I am sure if you all were able to get through it, I will too.

Thank you all so much for posting your experiences - it has been very helpful and insightful.

Bailey and mystic - glad to hear of other FAC '08-ers... I'm excited as well! What are your living situations? Do you already live nearby, and are commuting? As I posted on another thread, I'm trying to decide if I want to commute or live on campus. I will have just finished my undergrad in May so commuting will be moving back in with my parents.. Financially, that would be great... socially, not so much!! Just trying to see what the majority of FACT students are doing.

Hi JerseyGirl!!!

It's awesome to link with other FACT students! I live 30mins outside of Philly so I will commute. I understand the prospects of living with you mom etc.., but, it's cost effective and a sacrifice for only a year or so. You will be so busy you won't even notice the inconvenience.

Hi JerseyGir1 :)

I live in Philly near Penn, so I'm close to center city. I agree with Mystic that it wouldn't be a bad idea for you to commute from your parents' for a year. If money's not an issue, living near Jeff would be great, but it's so expensive to rent in town. The clinical sites can be all over the place from what I hear, so it's likely even if you lived on campus that you'd be commuting at some point anyway for the clinical rotations. Speaking from personal experience, I lived with my parents for a year while we were looking for a house and, while it is a bit strange to slip back into old dynamics, it really wasn't that bad. Like Mystic said, you'll be so busy it'll go by quick. I vote for whatever option is least expensive for you.

Looking forward to meeting all of you by the way!
