36 Wks. preg. Why is my belly numb?

Hi, all. As you can see by the title of this thread, I am 36 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. I've noticed recently that my belly has become completely numb to the touch! If it itches and I scratch it, I can't even feel my fingernails on it. While it is numb all over, the closer I get to the belly button, the more numb it is. I don't recall this happening with baby #1. I have looked on the net and I have found where a few other women have posted to discussion boards about this, but I have yet to find a reason why this happens. Any ideas? :rolleyes:

happened to me, too. i assumed it was b/cs the skin stretched, with decreased innervation for the increased surface area.
