Wilmington NC Area Salaries & UNCW FNP Program

Hi everyone. I am looking for anyone working in the Wilmington area, perhaps at New Hanover, Brunswick Community Hospital or Dosher Memorial or anyone who is attending UNCW's Masters program to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.

I am in the NY area working on my ADN as a second degree (I have my Bachelor's in business from my "first life" in Human Resources) so any information about the UNCW program is much appreciated. My husband and I are looking to relocate from NY to NC so I can continue school and to be closer to family.

I am also wondering what the "real" salaries are out there in the Wilmington area. You can only find so much info online that is accurate. For example if you go on Salary.com and look up the RN salary for NY (Long Island), it's accurate, but from what I'm hearing that's not the case for NC. It seems to be grossly inflated for NC! I'm trying to figure out if I should work in NY for a year (so as not to be considered a "new grad") and then think about applying in NC or if I should just bite the bullet and move right away.

I'm interested in what you found out about WIlmington area salaries? I am a recent grad with LPN experience and I was just hired in Wilmington with a base pay of 19.95/hr. A little bit of a pay cut from where I moved from, but wanted to be closer to family.... I thought the pay around here was pretty low compared to may other areas, but I don't know if that is everyone's experience?

So your a new RN with LPN experience and they gave you 19.95/hour? Nobody out there is replying to the post but I did read an article in the Star News - that shows the avg salary for an RN at $56K"ish" check it out. Where are you working - are you at New Hanover?

Just interviewed at New Hanover in Wilmington and have 5 yrs exp. Was offered $19.95/hr plus a dollar more for ever year of expierence. Huge pay cut from what Im making just 4 hours away in the same state. What is wrong with this picture! Life Flight and ED nurses should be payed much better than this in this area.

Wow - what a let down I think they definitely need to get with the program in Wilmington and realize that they are way behind everyone else and they're not going to get good talent unless they start paying. It's definitely disappointing when I think about working in NY and getting some killer experience and then going down there to make the same amount I would as an extern

New Grads make 19.64 and hour at NHRMC. I worked there as a CNA while in Nursing school, just graduated and accepted position at another hospital where I will be making more....as a former employee who quit NHRMC, I recommend taking a position elsewhere if you can. NH is the only dog in town, has a huge monopoly, and pays accordingly.

Anyone on here know about Columbus Regional in Whiteville? I saw a few positions there and thought about applying if it has a decent reputation. Thoughts? Salary for a new grad RN?
