I just accepted a new position in a small hospital (California) for risk management with our rural health clinics. I have been working in core measures for the last two years but I have 13 years of experience in our clinics before I became an RN. Is there anything I should read or become familiar with as I have 30 days before I begin?

Welcome to the profession, although I always find it interesting when a facility hires a risk manager with no training or experience in the field. Risk Management Handbook for Health Care Organizations: 9780470300176: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com is the standard textbook in the profession. Welcome to ASHRM website is the professional organization for healthcare risk managers and offers training courses. You can also contact the hospital's malpractice insurance carrier and ask if they have any helpful materials. Finally, don't hesitate to message me if I can be of any help.
Thank you so very much! I have a bit of Quality Improvement experience with core measures and process improvement but I was actually approached to apply. I always wanted to work in risk when I grew up....I guess sooner than later. Thank you for offering to be a resource and thanks for the nudge in the right direction!
