Will a ASN in KY and BSN in GA will there be a problem?

Published

I am in the Army about to get out, I am contemplating getting a ASN at a community college in KY and once I finish that get my BSN, hopefully from Columbus State University. Will I have any problems doing that? Could there be some sort of conflict since I will be transferring from the community college to CSU? Also, I am currently taking classes online that are going towards general studies, I can't take some of the classes that most pre-nursing students take b/c of the fact that is online. My question is this, when I get back to the states and go back to school, would it be better if I went straight in a ASN program and risk losing some of the credits that I have now or complete my assciates in General studies, and go for my BSN? Am I able to do that? Could anyone give me some advice on this, what is the best route to go?

I can't tell you which path would be "better" for you to take, but I can tell you that it is v. common to transfer credits from community colleges into universities, including between states. As long as the school you're transferring from is legitimately accredited, there shouldn't be any problem. One issue with community college -> university transfers is when the community college is on a "quarter" system and the university is on a "semester" system -- the hours don't quite work out. In my state, all the community colleges went to a semester system a number of years ago in order to fix that specific problem ... Schools are v. accustomed to working with you about transferring in credits from other schools. Lots of people start a degree or program in one state and end up finishing in another state. Best wishes!
