Hey everyone I will be going to COT in Oct with my NTP program at lackland, Also getting stationed there in the cardiac unit. I am not to familiar with the area and I was informed that we dont get any house hunting time when we get there so I will be moving out there before COT. I have heard that everyone is moving out of wilford hall and going to BAMC eventually. Does anyone know when that is suppose to happen?? Where are some good/safe areas around there to live? i have heard cibolo/shertz/stone oak/ converse??? But i heard that the cummute is like 50 min..Should I try to find a place closer to wilford hall or BAMC? Is trafffic horrible if I lived north san antonio or east????? Also what is the NTP program like??? Thanks for all your help =)

You will most definitely get house hunting time. I got seven days. EVERYONE gets house hunting time - it's Air Force directed. Moving here before COT is a mistake because your orders can and sometimes do change. You actually SHOULDN'T even consider moving here ahead of time.
So they gave it to you as soon as you got to lackland (is that where your NTP is and duty station)?? I really hope so, because i thought that you always get house hunting but then i talked to someone and I was told that we were not going to be given the time in NTP so I started stressing out. I get like 3 travel days from montgomery to lackland. OMG You are so right i didn't even think about orders changing that would be vey bad. So how did you move? did you have the military move for you or do a dity. Any advice is much appreciated =)
You won't be given it in NTP because it's considered a TDY and they'll put you in billeting. I didn't need NTP and came in fully qualified. I missed that part of your post. I suppose you could look around on your weekends off, but I don't know if they'd let you move out of the dorms in NTP or not. I'll see if I can find my friend who went to COT with me who's now here at NTP and ask.
Three days is PLENTY to get from Montgomery to Lackland. I did burn off a day of leave, though, and stopped overnight in New Orleans to party a bit. Treated myself to a night in the Westin on Poydras Street (with half the bill courtesy of some Amex points!) and walked to the French Quarter for some Bubba Gump shrimp, a Pat O'Brien's Hurricane and beignets (a type of French donut) in the Cafe du Monde - so very cliche and so very worth it!!
I let the military move me; I just gave my husband a copy of my orders and a power of attorney and they came and got my stuff.
Thank you so much =) So how do you like working at lackland so far? Is it like being a civilian nurse or way different? What are the shifts like?
