"Why do you want to be a CRNA?" It is probably the first and most fundamental question you faced during your interview. I was wondering how you approached it. What were some the "golden" words or phases you thought the committee was looking for. Obviously, you are not going to say "its the money" Any thoughts? Thanks

For me, it was three things:
1) one-on-one care
2) lots of critical thinking
and
3) get to work with the toys (technology)

Actually, when I was doing admission interviews for CRNA school, I found it somewhat refreshing when an applicant at least TOUCHED on the money. I have to admit the money WAS one of the top 3 reasons I did it.
What is so obvious about NOT mentioning it? Almost all the CRNAs you are interviewing with already assume that is a big part of it.

1. I enjoy performing high skill tasks, IV, Central lines, intubations, a-lines, blah blah blah
2. Immediate gratification....take a pt safely through a procedure and then move on to the next pt....No, diagnosing htn , prescribe HCTZ and life style changes, chase after the pt to follow the plan of care, see the pt in hospital with CVA/MI because they would rather smoke cigs and eat fried chicken then follow the plan. Anesthesia is very unique in this way. My program actually asked why I wanted to pursue CRNA vs NP.
and a few of the others people have already said.

I was actually asked in my interview why I didn't become an acute care NP. I just told them the idea of following a physician around all day, writing orders & progress notes doesn't interest me.
