Hello everyone, I am a lpn student presently taking pre reqs and looking to take the pre assessment test next summer. I have been asking advisors which test is it going to be the NLN or NET, one instructor told me the test doesnt have a name and another said she doesnt know and she asked me why I want to know, and I want to know so I can get a study guide so I can do my best to get into the program so all this money im spending and time and effort isnt a waste.Im a good student with a respectable gpa and I just like being as prepared as I can possibly be in all things I do.But it seems odd to me and my family and some class mates that the school we attend doesnt even know the name of the test they are using.Did anyone else run into this problem? Why do you think they wouldnt give us the info we need to at least be prepared for the test?Or am I overreacting?

i dont know if this is why they are doing that to you, but here is something to think about:
Our LPN Class will take a sample NCLEX at 5 points throughout school. Just as like a progress assessment, and practice taking the test. Due to my having some exposure to this school before (I have been married twice and both wives went through this course) and having "crammed" with some of my wifes NCLEX books, I scored around 70% the first time we took it (day 1), whohoo I'm close to passing my NCLEX and I didnt even start school yet. What am I here for anyway? well.....I dont really know squat about nursing. If it was used to determine what course work I actually needed to do, then my ability to provide quality nursing would be really effected. If you cram for an assessment, then the assesment isnt accurate.
Plus if it's an assesment then it's not graded, save your stress for A&P.

Thanks for the reply.
After asking around and sending plenty of emails, they finally told me the test is the DET.
Even though they only accept 40 students into the LPN prg isnt my problem so I want to get a study to be one of the 40 to get in.
The test is Summer of 2006 so when I get the study guide this month it wont be cramming at all,Im just protecting my investment in making sure I get in. I know its not graded but it is how they pick their 40 students and this is just a way to weed out people and of course they wouldnt want all 200 of their applicants to score highly on the assessment so im guessing thats why they dont want students to prepare themselves.

so its not really "assesment" it sounds like an "entrance exam". yeah so you probably should study. I dont know about the DET so I dont what to tell you to study. maybe someone else knows. Let us know how you did.
