At breakfast this morning, my daughter asked me why I thought nurses are so special. As I thought of the long shifts ahead of me I thought there is no one single answer to her question! I would like to hear from others why they think we are so special.

We are some of the few souls on earth who know how to blend extensive medical knowledge and knowhow with true human compassion (should). We are some of the few who are willing to make the effort to actually take care of the people and not just get rid of the disease or ignore the person altogether. We are willing to put up with so much for so little because we know -- even if only deep down sometimes -- that what we are doing is very important.
We know that people die when there aren't enough of us around. How can you follow that?
