Are you a nurse, gugu? How did you function in your clinicals with your hard of hearing problem?

How do potential employers even know you are hearing impaired? How severe is your hearing loss and do you wear hearing aids/use an amplified stethoscope? The idea that hearing impaired nurses are a danger to patient safety is a proven misconception. Take a look at this site: http://www.amphl.org/nursing.php Obviously you need to take the appropriate steps to ensure that you can communicate and properly assess heart and lung tones, but you should already have methods in place from nursing school. I have mild hearing loss in both ears. I use BTE hearing aids and an amplified stethoscope and I have gotten along just fine. I'd like to help, but I need more info.

which scope are you using with your BTE aids? Do you just remove your hearing aids and use the amplified scope? I'm curious as I'm new to hearing aids and looking to purchase my first amplied scope.
ALSO, FOR THE ORIGINAL POSTER:
what departments are you applying for? Are they concerned that you will not be able to safely perform your duties due to the loud nature of the units and high acuity of the patients?
HOH-RN- Sorry for the delayed response. I just saw this now... I have to take the hearing aids out in order to use my stethoscope. It's annoying, but it hasn't posed any problems for me. I do worry about losing them, though. I don't know of any hearing aids that can be used together with a stethoscope.
