For those who work in insurance or managed care in TN, what company would you recommend for work? I 've heard varying opinions on working for a nonprofit as opposed to a for profit company but was wondering who to consider. I live in Nashville, and I'm aware that there are new insurance companies in the area.

Mijourney - I am curious about this type of work. What is the pay like? I have a nurse friend who was talking about this..she is interested in doing something different but it on a really nice pay scale right now.
I honestly don't know much about the pay now. I think you probably make more in the hospital then insurance depending on if you're in management or not. I did utilization review work some time ago in another place and was making comparable to what I was making in the hospital. However, I only had a couple of years invested in the hospital. I'd like to get some feedback on what the insurance salaries are today or at least where I can find them.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee is a large one, they usually require a BSN and 5 years clinical experience but ive heard it pays very well. BCBST.com

I live in west TN and am interested in doing work for an insurance company, but have found nothing in my area. The closest major city to me is Jackson. Anyone know any insurance company or telephone work out this way? Also, I only have a year and a half of floor experience and an associates degree-am i wasting my time even looking for something in this field?
