I get so scared when I have to take an exam for hospital hire. I mean they ask for drips rates which we never use, drop rates, and other complex stuff that we never used on the floor. We have pumps that do that, but I understand we need to know this stuff,
The only thing I use is the great ole Desire over Have. I love that formua. Can you give me any clues how to get over this fear of more comlex formuals. I study and study but still get scared. Once on the floor I'm OK and could probably do the formula. Its the test thing that gets me.
Have you had the same experience and how have you handled it. If I used the more complex formulas, they would be a breeze.

There's no rule that says you can't bring a laminated index card in with you, one that's got several different formulas on it. I have been an ICU nurse for a long time, and I still use little cheats. Give it a try! It might make you feel better knowing that you've got a reference, should you need it.

Hi Oakbourne,
Practice doing computations daily. Just spend 15 - 20 min. a day practicing them, and you will get to the point where you could do them in your sleep. You'll recognize them and say to yourself, ah, this type of problem is done this way,and you'll just do it. If you do some computations daily, you'll also be a safer nurse, as you'll have more math confidence and ability via daily practice.
best of luck to you!
