I am a student nurse working toward an RN degree. My instructors have told me I'm doing an excellent job and that I'm analytical, but that I can get too anxious sometimes and need to relax. I *love* helping people (physically and emotionally). I especially enjoy working with the older population. I do not handle fast-paced environments well, so things like the ER would be out for me.
I worked in administration in assisted living homes for years before staying home with my kids. I loved that environment. I found great satisfaction in dealing with the same residents every day and developing relationships with them. However, doing that as a new grad concerns me because of the nurse to patient ratio. As I recall, they only had one or two nurses for about 60 residents in the building. I have considered working in a doctor's office. Both my personality and my administrative background make me think this may be a good fit for me. I have heard that most offices prefer to hire LPNs and MAs, though. I've also considered hospice, urgent care, and community health nursing, but I don't know enough about any of these avenues to make an informed decision on them.
I'm sure there are even more nursing careers out there that I have not considered due to ignorance. I'd love to hear about nursing careers of which I am not aware. I'd also love to hear about your personal experience with any of the above-mentioned career paths. Do you all have any recommendations based on my background, personality, interests, etc.? Thanks for your time.
