Which NICU journal is the best for a new grad?

Specialties NICU

Hello, I am a new grad who just started a position in a level III NICU. I am wanting to subscribe to a NICU journal and I was wondering which would be the best for me as a new grad. I have heard of associations like the National Association of Neonatal Nurses that have journals, but I am not sure which would be the best. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

There are two journals specifically for NICU nurses. They are both terrific in their own way. The journals are just one of the perks of joining the organization which offers the journals. Other perks from each organization include free CEUs, discounts on books, etc., and both sponsor national nursing conferences each year. I cannot decide which I like the most and I feel both would be great for a NICU new grad. I have been a member of each for as long as they have been around.

Good luck deciding! I would suggest sucking it up and joining both because all the information in both journals is incredibly helpful!! The more information you can get only helps to make you a better nurse for those tiny babies who are depending on your skills every day!

Thank you so much for your help! I will probably end up joining both, because I want to learn all I can!!! Like you said, it will make me a better nurse and will definitely be worth the money. Thanks again!

Good for you GoldenEagleRN! I support you in your decision to join both organizations and am very certain you will be glad you did! If you ever get a chance, please try to attend some of the national nursing conferences sponsored by these organizations; they can't be beat for keeping up with new changes in neonatal nursing and reviewing current information, but you also get to meet the leaders in our field as well as meet other NICU nurses from all over the world. There is always a big room full of sales people in booths of many types of neonatal care products as well as nurse recruiters at other hospitals and such who will fill up your goodie bag with all kinds of cool stuff you can take back to work with you. When I see a speaker is also the author of a book I own, I take the book with me and ask them to autograph it for me! That's really a hoot!

Here's wishing you a very fulfilling and rewarding career with all the little lives and families you will touch over the years!
