Hi everyone! I'm currently finishing my ASN in July and wanted to go ahead figure out my next step in education before I divulge into my first full-time nursing career. However, I'm trying to figure out which route to go for my future.
My end goal is to be a Family Nurse Practitioner. I want to go to WGU and do the RN to MSN program due to cost and online flexibility. I also feel that I need to speed time working as an RN while I'm in school so I can really get the nursing experience that ASN programs often do not provide.
That being said, does it matter which MSN specialty I choose before pursuing my FNP certification? WGU only offers the following RN-MSN paths: Informatics, Leadership, and Education. If it does matter which of the 3 educations should I choose. And if none of the 3 what other program or specialty should I consider? I plan to go to Kaplan University for my FNP certification however that may change in the future.
Also, what kind of careers can I look forward to in informatics, leadership, or education with just an MSN?
If anyone could shed some light on this I'd really appreciate it!
