I presently work in med-surg; while it's not as bad as I've heard it's not really what I want to do. I like interacting with and caring for the patients, but I spend too much time doing charting and med passes. And I think there's too little control, and too much concern about following rules and avoiding lawsuits.
I know part of the problem is that my hospital is understaffed, my floor particularly so. I could go to another floor and/or another hospital and probably find a better situation. But I'm not sure that floor nursing is really my calling.

This is one of the things I love about psych nursing. While we are also always understaffed and do plenty of med passes and paperwork I still get to spend time interacting and talking with my patients. Its not for everyone but I really enjoy it.
