Can anyone give me some leads on where to apply for a job as a new grad nurse in California that isn't so competitive? I am open to relocating anywhere, as well as working in any setting including prison healthcare or rural. Someone told me that Susanville is a good place to look? Anyone know anything about that?

I heard St. Vincent is hiring and their new grad program is sometime in June. My friend who is an RN over there said that they're looking for people with a BSN though...BUT! she could be wrong...anyway, here's the link to the hospital:

Rural would be your best bet.....And also the more undesirable parts of the state (high crime rates, high smog). Bakersfield/Kern County may have something. Please keep in mind there are a lot of new graduates here who do not have jobs, and that started with December 2008's graduating classes...I still know some people who do not have jobs....

Rural is your best bet, IMO. The rural hospitals are still having trouble recruiting because (a) the compensation is much lower and (b) few people are interested in moving there.
I had to go rural to find my job.
The prison thing is not likely for a new grad. I recently attended a job fair and was told by the CDCR recruiter that there are so many experienced nurses looking for work that they're just not looking at new grads right now.
