Where do I start???

Hello,

My name is Chrissy. I am a mom of 5 and since I am done having children I decided to start my career. I always wanted to be a nurse, but felt I wasn't that smart too. So now I am going to give it a try. So where do I start? I found a voc school in Frackville PA for LPN. Is there anything I should get familiarized with? Does every school give pre req? Anybody with any kind of info would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to allnurses! This is a great resource for exploring nursing and helping you get through the journey (and beyond!). I would read through some of the forums here, especially the pre-nursing and the LPN corner.

I would contact the school(s) you are interested in and find out what pre-reqs they may have. Also, see if they have any information sessions that you can attend. Those can be good resources since others might ask questions that you didn't even think of!

And don't think that you're not smart enough to do this. A lot of being "smart" is having confidence in your abilities, studying effectively, and figuring out how to balance everything else in your life. You CAN do this!

I was told my whole life I wasn't smart enough and couldn't do this and that, its taken me years to get over that and realize I CAN do this stuff, and finding quite ironically I am doing it quite well. Its a lot of hard work but the confidence boost its given me is worth it all even if I didn't get in at the end this education I am getting has been my thearapy!

Congratulations for doing something for yourself! It's sometimes hard to do that as a mom. Are you going for RN, or lpn first then RN. It depends on how fast you want to start working. I'd get started on those core classes such as algebra( depending where you place on your placement exam),eng 101, bio100, chem100. These are the pre-reqs to your pre-reqs required for most nursing programs. Welcome to all.nurses!
