Where do you go after COT Air Force

Published

I am curious to know what happens after COT. Do they send you directly to your duty station? Or, do you go back to where you were?

Thanks for the link. Yes I do have a family. My husband has been in the Air Force for 20 years now. He is helping me out a lot, but since he is on the enlisted side some things are different. It is nice to have him for guidance with all the abbreviations people talk about. It’s a lot to take in. I have been filling his head with all kinds of questions. I hope my scroll comes back in time for June. My husband said yes about the orders with move.com. I agree, so MUCH with little detail.

Oh that’s cool! Is he going to retire or do you think y’all will be stationed together? I wanted to join too but I have to have medical waivers that I would have to jump through and such plus my husband is leery of how we would manage both of us being in and having kids. Plus, when he was in the first time all the nurses only deployed 3mo at a time when they deployed. We see that now deployments are 6mo long and could be as frequent as every 18mo. I don’t know if i’m up for us essentially being apart and leave our kids with only one parent every other year. We decided since he has prior service and didn’t have medical issues to wavier it would be best for him to go for now and if we get somewhere and see that it’s doable for us both to be in then maybe I could try too and if not then so be it. Fingers crossed for June and for hearing something soon!!

jfratian: thanks for the info on house hunting and such!

The recruiter sent security clearance paperwork and said to have it done and returned NLT 2 weeks. So that’s where we’re sitting for now.

If his experience is like mine, he can expect to oath 30 days or less from the when that credit check gets run alongside the SF86.

When did you commission? The first recruiter we were dealing with initially told us that he would commission 60 days prior to him leaving for COT. That recruiter left back in december and his MasterSgt took over and has been handling everything since. When he called last week to tell us he got the spot he said that apparently the way they were doing it isn’t allowed and wasn’t very clear on how/when it will happen now. He tried to say that if my husband knew an officer he could have that officer commission him and that if not there was a commissioning ceremony at COT, but I thought that was for the officers that weren’t allowed to commission until training was done. Again, wasn’t too clear but the hubs was so excited and recruiter didn’t have too much info so we figured we would pile on the rest of the questions the next time he calls.

Does anyone know if they actually contact your employer when they do these checks? Hubs wants to have all the details set before putting in a notice but didn’t want his employer to get a call and hear it from someone else first. We asked the administrative secretary that sent the paperwork and she said she wasn’t sure.

He has no intentions as of now. But for some reason if him and I clash, then he will. But the plan is for both of us to stay in. It’s a lot to think about for sure. We are both prepared for whatever comes☺️

That sounds like a great plan. Fingers crossed we hear something more soon!

Well, he got a COT date! But recruiter said assignments are delayed for everyone right now. Did you hear anything today?

I haven’t heard anything?. What is his date?

Well bummer. Maybe you’ll hear today. He is in the one for July 30. Looks like a combined one but also looks like COT breaks off a graduates while TFOT stays a few more weeks. Grad date recruiter had was Aug 30. He didn’t say anything about why the assignments were delayed though. Just that they were for everyone. I can’t wait for you to get some news too!!

I just found out today I am also in the July class? It is nice to chat with someone in the same boat☺️

Yay!!! We talked to the recruiter today and he said we should hear something about assignments any day now. Said he would let us know as soon as he hears. I’ve seen where other COT groups have made/joined FB groups. We found one called 19-06 and hubby joined it but found it the April group. Didn’t know if you had been looking or found one. The info he read from that group was super helpful!
