Where can I get info about shadowing a RN in NJ

Published

Hello,

I am a Nursing student in NJ. I am really scared and have sooo many questions. Does anyone know a hospital in Central NJ that allows Nursing majors to shadow a RN. The only thing I see online is for high school students only. I think I will feel a lot better if I can speak to a RN and watch what they do even if it's for one hour.

Maybe contact unit nurse managers and they might know which

of the nursing staff would be willing to have you shadow.

Do you know maybe any RN's who are willing to cmmunicate with Nursing students via email? Sort of like a mentor?

Another resource might be the nurse recruiter at the local hospitals.

I wouldn't mind doing that. My goddaughter is in ursing school right now, so I am already in practice. :typing

Feel free to contact me. I've been an RN since 1980, with a whole range of experiences.

Decide the specialties you are interested in. Call the hospitals you are familiar with (meaning, ones you are aware exist, ones that are close enough for you to travel to). Ask for human resources, and express interest in shadowing a nurse in (surgery, ER, OR, ICU, etc) dept, ask if you could arrange to shadow a nurse for maybe 4-6 hours, or a whole shift if you are willing.

I imagine if the hospitals there are like the ones here, they will be eager to allow you to shadow. To get a good idea of the role of a nurse in whatever specialty, you really need to see minimum 4-6 hours... if not an entire shift, which will show you their day start to finish. That's a commitment on your part, but a good idea to start thinking about where you want to start when you graduate.

If you have questions that you want answered, I'm more than willing to help. PM me and I'll send you my email address. Good luck!!
