Where do most births take place in Midwife care centered countries?

Published

I've been researching issues re: high cost of maternity care in US, lack of midwifery care here, and the stat that is always out there of the US being bottom of the barrel of comparable industrialized countries in terms of maternal/infant outcomes. The plug is always that the top countries almost always provide low risk women maternity care with midwives.

My question is, can people fill me in on where those midwife attended births are taking place? Some are homebirths, I assume some are hospitals, and some maternity centers...but what do each of those look like in different countries?

Also- if anyone knows of a good centralized resource for this type of information I would greatly appreciate it!
