When to turn in your notice ?

My big question is ...When do you turn in your notice when hoping to start traveling ? I hear recruiters saying that jobs are only being posted 1 to 2 weeks out. So that makes it really tough to turn in a good notice and not burn any bridges. Burn a bridge or miss a great travel chance......It is a big gamble. I am just really concerned about turning my notice in and then not being about to find a travel position. Any advice would be great!!!

It seems that when your traveling, your going under a contract. So you should be able to discuss the terms of your contract. NEVER burn a bridge. The recruiter is also probably trying to fill position quickly, as that is part of their job. When you narrow your search down to a particular state, city, etc...then you can talk with the recruiter and tell them to let you know when they have something. I know many travelers that go back to where they came from because many hospitals are trying to get rid of their travelers because of the expense.

don't give your notice until you have a signed contract! I just let my recruiter know that I needed to give a two week notice and to have my start date after that. You might miss an opportunity if they want someone earlier, but It's worth it not to burn bridges. If they want you they will have to wait

have you considered going pool/prn/per diam at your facility when you are getting closer to an actual assignment? that would also keep your foot in the door for when you are between assignments and want to pick up a shift or two. Just a thought.... :)

2 Weeks is all that is needed. I just took my first travel assignment about a month ago. I gave my 2 weeks both verbally and in writing. My manager had no problem with this, and I am confident that I could return If i needed to. Best of luck traveling!!!:twocents:
