When to take micro?

Published

Ok, let me explain before I ask this question (ok, I guess I already did in the subject line, lol). Anyway....hubby and I are thinking about having another baby. I of course do NOT want to have a baby in the middle of a semester. Now...I'm starting the nursing program this fall and planned on taking micro with nursing 3 NEXT fall. And then I thought to try and get pregnant Sept. or Oct. to be due in the summer in between semesters. But then I decided I'd rather take micro in the summer because it's hard and I think it would be too much taking it with nursing 3. Sooooooo.....to those that have taken these classes, what would you do? What would be easier...taking mirco with nursing 2 or 3? I always hear how nursing 3 is hard because it's medsurg and from what I've hear around here, medsurg isn't pretty....so what to do? Thanks for any advice.

I'm currently taking micro this summer in between my NRS II and NRS III. I didnt want to take it with NRSIII because I keep hearing horror stories about how difficult the 3rd semester is. I did have to pay for the class out of my own pocket as there is no financial aid at my school in the summer but in my eyes it was well worth it.

As far as having another baby. God Bless you and Good Luck, I certainly could not handle being pregnant while in NS. Being on my feet at clinicals alone woulda killed me. We've had a few pregnant in my class and one couldn't handle it and dropped/failed and the other made it through but she really struggled. Its none of my business and I'm not sure you even asked, but have you thought about waiting until you graduate? Just a thought.

Good Luck in NS!!!

Thanks for your input. The problem with waiting until after I graduate is that I'd have to take time off work and I didn't want to do that. I want to get my having kids days behind me and never have to worry about work and pregnancy and taking time off afterwards, ya know? And there's no way I'd put a little baby in daycare. So I don't know, lol....I'm confused!

LOL i hear ya, its a big decision. Just be wise. NS is like no other schooling and is very taxing. And if perchance you have a difficult pregnancy you won't have to worry about taking time off of work cause you won't have the RN job. Sorry to be so blunt, that sounded worse than I meant it. I'm not saying being pregnant and being successful in NS isn't possible, I'm just saying that it is going to be even more difficult than it ordinarily already is. If you were absolutely against waiting until graduation I would definately at least wait until after your first semester so you are prepared for the workload and know exactly what you are getting into with regard to NS.

As I said Good Luck to you and I don't mean to be so pessimistic, that is not my intent and I sincerely wish you Good Luck!!!!

Thank you pharmgirl..... your post wasn't bad at all. You gave your opinion and that's what I wanted. I guess I just needed to hear from all you experienced ladies to wait. I know nursing school is going to be hard, especially with 2 kids already....so having a new baby probably isn't a good idea. Thanks for helping. :)
