I had what seemed to be a good interview with a medical insurance company last Friday for a case management position. The interviewer was a RN consultant for the firm. I sent out a follow up thank you letter on Saturday addressed to her. In retrospect I probably should have sent it to HR vs. her because at the interview she said that HR would call me.
I called today (wednesday) and asked for the interviewer by name. The receptionist said "she's not here." I then asked when she will be back and the reply I got was "dont know, she doesn't work full time, she's only a consultant". So I didn't leave my name or a msg.
My question is: today being wednesday, 3 business days later, should I call HR to follow up or send another thank you follow up letter to HR ASAP, then call later? If so, when should I call?
Thanks.

Did they give you a time frame on when the decision would be made. (or did you ask) If they did, I would wait until that day and follow up. If there was no discussion call now and ask if they have made a decision and if they have not when they would expect to make the decision. That is not unreasonable to ask. And it is perfectly fine to leave that message on a vm but be careful of the tone.
Boston-RN, thanks for your reply.
Actually, I didn't ask when they would be making a decision. The interviewer had mentioned that I had all the qualifications, she like me and that she would recommend me to HR. She even took the time to tour the office and introduce me to senior staff mentioning she doesnt usually do that. The thing is, she is an off site consultant (FT MedSurg RN) so she doesn't do the actual hiring, just the interviews. She didn't give a timeframe, I guess I didn't ask as it seemed that I just about had it "in the bag". Ahhh, never count your eggs before.....
But being about a week and not heard from them, makes me worry a little. So you think I should just go ahead and call HR then? Or should I keep trying and hope she is in the office? She did the interview last friday so perhaps friday is the day she is in the office & I should call then?
