My school offers the 2 yr. ASN program. I just registered as a new student for the Jan/05 term. I'm taking micro and a humanities class for now (that's all) because everything else I wanted/needed was closed. It's been about 8 yrs. since I took A&P1, Eng., Pschology, and Algebra.

I've got to retake the A&P bc it's over 5 yrs old. However, I could go ahead and sign up for the micro class bc the only pre-req was A&P1...so why not get it out of the way right!?

My question is...drumroll...just kidding! When is the best time to submit the special admissions application for the actual nursing program while taking the pre-reqs???

The only other pre-reqs I need after this next semester are A&P1 again (since it's been over 5 yrs), A&P2, and nutrition.

My school offers the daytime RN program starting every fall and the nighttime RN Program every spring. I need the night time program.

So, should I go ahead and submit the app. asap (like in Jan or Feb of 05)...or should I wait until I get a few more pre-reqs under my belt??

Thanks for any advice!! :)

Dear Kelly:

That question is best answered by your school councilor. Some schools don't mind getting an incomplete application when there are still lot's of prereqs to fill. They can keep you on file and add classes as the grades come in. Others don't want to hear from you until all your prereqs are done. I had to complete all my classes, then send complete transcripts while taking a semester off school. Other schools will consider you if you are in your last semester of prereqs and not taking more than one science, but students completely done get priority. They are all different.

Check out the nursing department web page for your school. Most programs have the application available to download, as well as a list of mandatory prerequisites to complete before you apply, application period, etc.

As both of your previous responders stated, it really has to do with your particular program. Find out from the nursing program, they will let you know the particulars.

Keep in mind though, if your school has a long waiting list, turning in an application too early may only generate a denial letter as the school will probably want students who are able to concentrate on their nursing classes only.

Again, contact the nursing department or check the school website. You may get more information that way.

Good luck!
