When to apply for a job

My husband and I have moved to the other side of the state, but I remain here during the week to attend school. I start my last semester in January. Over the holidays, I want to check out the local hospitals in my new area. Is it acceptable to submit an application and resume now?

Some of the students in my class have already been hired by the local hospital for when they graduate in May.

Regarding references, do I actually get letters, or should I be listing phone numbers, or perhaps "references upon request?" My school has a class on resumes, but it is closer to the end of our final semester, and I plan to have a job lined up by then.

Thanks for any and all help!

It's not too early to make contact with the hospitals and submit an application and resume. The important thing is to ask them what timetable THEY prefer for you to interview, etc. There is no "written in stone" universal answer that will apply to all situations. So start talking with them, establish a relationship with the nurse recruiters and let them help you negotiate their systems effectively.

Thanks! I'll starting looking next week.

Girl, I just finished second semester and I have already secured a job with my favorite local hospital. I would suggest contacting the nurse recruiter at the local hospitals you are interested in and having a face to face. They may want to wait a little bit to hire you but knowing you are in the area may make a HUGE difference. . .
