What's true?

Published

I am waiting to see if I get an interview to Kaiser's CSUF program and am thinking I'm not getting in.

I was told that more letters were to be sent out- but by this time are they rejection letters?

What is the average years of experience for acceptees?

I was also told by another CRNA I had met that "they" like to reject applicants on the first time around- is this true or something to make everyone feel better?

Thanks everyone- this board has been great!:kiss

Great to hear!

Just wondering if you have heard yet about an interview?

(I am Sr at Kaiser)

Qwiggley,

Alas, I have just found out and did not get in:o . But, through the information I have gained on this board, I feel it was a favor to me. I have not done nearly enough financial planning and will benefit from more varied ICU experience (I only had neuro). I also plan to take the CCRN, get more indepth with my pharm knowledge and brush up on o-chem and anatomy, shaddow some more, as well as research and keep up to date on my new interest within the CRNA field, ie why it is the "silent profession", and how to become more involved. I am sorry I will miss you at school and hope you will continue to be the valuable resource that you are! What are your plans after you graduate? If it is ok with you, I'd like to see what they felt was remiss on my apps, any advice and see what you think!:) Thanks everyone for all the info and support!

Just Neuro? Don't sell yourself so short. That is what I had initially-Neuro-Trauma. I assume you have Agency nursing on the West coast. This may be an option to you because you get to see a variety of critical care units. I think it shows flexibility and comfort within the profession. Also, dont just rely on one program. What one thinks is unimportant, another may value it. I have heard many stories among my classmates of horrific interviews and denials, being told they are not the right canidate for them, only to find out they got into another program.

Well, I had thought Neuro was pretty hot myself seeing as you need to have competence balancing CV, pain, and sedation issues all against an altered mental status. I have to question everything, however, at this point including the need for more consistent varied experience. I had put on my resume that I had registry experience in both a trauma hospital as well as a childrens hospital. Which might mean a couple of things-a) I didn't make that experience prominent enough b) they don't care and something else is the problem. I've been over thinking it entirely too much and will see what the program has to say about my app. I really appreciate the encouragement though!!!:D

I am sure that if you call either Michael Boytim or Sass Elisia and tell them that you would like a few minutes of their time to assess your application and that you would like their valuable opinion on what you could do to strengthen your application for next year they would be happy to help you. "specially since you live in Pasadena. This will do 2 things; you will learn what you can do to make yourself a stronger candidate and it will show then that you are very eager and willing to do what it takes to succeed. I know for a fact that this helps and is important to do. They will respect you very much.

Let me know if I may be of further help.

Thanks so much! That is exactly what I am going to do. What kind of job opportunities are you looking into?

Pretty much my focus is study for boards and try to keep up in school!

The "keep your sanity" plan- I gotta get me one of those:roll

Tommy,

Do you still live in Utah? I'm trying to get into CRNA school. I've had one interview and one rejection. :) Any advice?

Kate

I got in to CAMC in WV. I work at a level one trauma center out here in Utah. I have been there for almost three years. We don't have a crna program available to us here, so I had to apply out of state. I really don't know much about the LA area except for that program. Sorry I can't be much help as far as that goes. As far as calling the program, I have always felt that getting your name seeded into someone's head can't be a bad thing. I don't know why they would be annoyed by you asking how to better yourself to get into their program (they should be flattered). So go for it.

good luck again.
