Everyone I talk to in HHC loves it.. I am an ED nurse looking to do something different. So tell me what's so great about home health?
Why do so many nurses love it?

What is so great about home health? Well, for me, I can say that I worked a medical/surgical floor for nearly 10 years and I loved it! LOVED it! I had several friends who talked me in to going to home health and I cannot believe I waited so long. Seeing patients in their homes, teaching them how to stay out of the hospital by educating them on their disease processes, watching wounds heal because of your treatment, seeing someone graduate from a wheelchair (post CVA) to walking unassisted, it is amazing! You get to know your patients. You get to know their families. You get to make a difference in the LONG run rather than the short term of the hospital. I always say, in the hospital I tried to keep them alive, in the home I help them live. Besides that, the pay was a tremendous increase and I don't feel like I am WORKING b/c I enjoy it so much. There are the perks of being able to schedule my day so that I can pick my kids up or go to the doctor or what ever errands I need to run. :) If you go to work for a good agency, that will make all the difference. I have a friend who worked for an agency that is plain and simply defrauding Medicare. Sad situation.

Wow...I so love your quote "I tried to keep them alive, in the home I help them live" I have an interview today with a hospital HHC so we will see. I will keep you posted.

BUMP! Interesting thread :)
Tammy, my pay went up by about 25% annually and I am home much more than when I worked in the hospital. I chart at home but I'm still home.
