What's a good Kaplan score? Just submitted application (Nursing Entrance Exam)

Updated:   Published

Just took the Kaplan and submitted my application for a local RN program. My scores: Math 94, Reading 93, Writing 73, Science 60. My overall score is 81.

The nursing director told me this is a solid score, and the cutoff for accepted applicants last semester was 69, but that is VERY hard to believe. If that's the case, I should be golden, but it can't be that low... Or is that actually not low for the Kaplan? Is that normal?

Thanks to everyone in advance. I'm anxiously waiting that letter!

Bump. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

I don't know about Kaplan but if it is like the Teas, it is an excellent score. I got a 78 on the Teas and I only know of a few people that scored higher than me. Very few people score in the 80's or 90's on those tests. Most people score in the 60's and 70's.

Was a 78 on the TEAS good enough to get you in?

This is a great score for the Kaplan! From what I have read, people scoring in the 70's is good and the cut off is usually 69 as your adviser said.

I would be interested to hear about what you thought about the exam and what you would recommend to study. I will be taking in a couple of weeks, hopefully!

Usually people score the lowest on the science too!

The science section is definitely the hardest. Writing is annoyingly frustrating. Send me a PM; I'll happily go into more detail. If I say too much here it'll be deleted. Thanks for the feedback!

I think so. I haven't gotten my letter yet but I had all A's in the 4 classes they look and my Teas Score. Many people who have either gone through the LPN program or are currently in the program said not to worry, that I should be good. I'm supposed to get my letter any day now.

RjSmithTech, thanks I PM'd you!

In one program, I got a 79 on Kaplan (didn't study at all) and I was accepted. Another program, I scored an 82 on the TEAS (again, horrible study habits) and I got accepted. It really just depends on your program, but if your GPA is good I think you will be okay.

However, this was also for a BSN program. I am not sure if that is going to be less competitive....

Twishes, apparently I'm not experienced enough with the site to reply to your PM, and I found this out after typing a substantial response lol! I will reply here when I'm off from work. Stay tuned : )

Thanks for the response RubySlippers06. It's good to hear you have similar scores and were accepted into a BSN program. My GPA is a 3.7 but unfortunately my school only looks at Kaplan scores for determining entrance. I know, crazy huh? I'm feeling good about my scores. Can't wait to get my dreams going.
