:heartbeat I'm in Ca and I am hopefully getting my passing letter in the mail today. I would like to know how long does it take to get my license. I know that I need to pay the license fee before they issue the license, but how long am I looking at before they mail it? What is the process of getting a temp license? Does the fee that covers the perm. license cover a temp also? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, cali~mom:nurse::heartbeat

Hi Cali~mom,

Ok, once you have passed (or failed) your NCLEX there's not a posibility on getting a tamporary license or what the board calls interim permit. Your only chance now is to wait for your paperwork, once you get that, send the money required and within about two or three weeks you'll get your license :)

I love your positivism about the letter, you will sure pass :)

I received my passing result from the California BVNPT on Jan. 9th, and mailed the check to them on that very same day. My license number was issued to me and appeared online on the 20th, and I received the actual hard copy of the license in the mail on or around the 24th.

Still is a trip, because the director of my school said that once you received confirmation that you have passed, that there is a way to rush to the offices in SAcramento and pay right then and there and receive a temporary license.

When I received my letter of passing from the board in the mail, I drove to Sacramento the next business day and came home with a license. This license stated that I had passed all educational and exam requirements, and was awaiting a permanent license. Just be sure to bring your ID and all the paperwork they mail to you, plus the fees.

Congrats!

Thanks for all the info, I am going on Monday to get my temp. license.

Cool beans.. thats what Im doing, too! I didnt want to wait for the grueling 3-4 weeks to get my actual license since i have a job waiting for me ... and Sacto trip about an hour from my home ... also does anyone know about our names appearing on the boards website? does it appear on there 48 hours after we pay? Also should we pay by personal check or money order if we go directly to boards site? or does it matter?

Congratulations on passing NCLEX! I am so excited for you and wish you luck with your new job :)

I am not sure it matters how you pay, but I paid with cash. I happened to forget my check book and instead of turning home, I stopped at an ATM.

It took about a week for my name to appear on the website and I had my actual nursing license a couple of days later.

Thanx scally!!! Im so excited! Im already geared up for Monday. Hit the road after taking my daughter to school so I can get there fairly early and then after I get the temp license go to my new job to fill out paperwork! Im still debating on what shift I want .. they offered me the 3p-11p .. Im thinking do that until July after Im donw w my Chem class then hope theres a 7a-3pm after so then in fall I can do both my micro and physio. classes .. I plan to apply to the RN program Jan-March of 09 to start in fall of 09. What exactly is the temp license? Does it have your license number on it? Or does it just state that youve passed and all pertinent information? Oh also does our actual license have our picture on it?? The one we took to submit w our fingerprints? Thanx!

That is exactly what I did....dropped the kids to school and then off to Sacramento. There was one other person in the office when I got there, so it was no wait at all.

The license you will get is just a piece of paper stating you passed all requirements/testing. The hard license is a blue card with your name and address, but no photo.

That is great that you have a job lined up already. Good luck with it. I am sure they will support changing your hours, especially since you will be in schooll. Most places seem to promote education and some even will have tuition reimbursement. You should look into that.

I am happy to hear you are moving on with your education. Good luck in your classes and getting into the RN program. :)
